What is macro and micro content and do I need both to grow my business?

The type of content you create to market your business online can be split into two categories – Macro and Micro content.

Macro content takes more time and effort to create, but once made has a long shelf life and can be shared multiple times across many platforms.

Here’s some examples:

They take longer for your customers or potential customers to consume (Read/Watch) but as a result of that, they give you the opportunity to delve deeper into the subjects your customers will find extremely valuable and useful, giving you more time and a better platform to showcase your expertise.

They also stay searchable for a long time, meaning they serve you for longer as a marketing tool for your business. You can help make them more searchable and therefore help more people find your business, by giving your Macro content titles that are searched often in google. Such as blog titles or YouTube video titles. Blogs I created over two years ago are still being found today and driving potential new customers to my website, social media pages and to the services I offer as a business coach.

Micro content is quick to create and quick to consume. Again they can be shared across multiple social media platforms once created but drop out of the newsfeeds quickly and become old news within a matter of days, sometimes hours. This type of content has a purpose and is perfect for all social media platforms.

Here’s some examples:

The purpose they serve in your business is to allow you to maintain a presence on social media which is current and which helps you build relationships with your followers.

Micro content that will serve your business best is the kind that offers your audience a chance to interact and engage with you. Social media content that lets them be social! Content which lets them get to know you the business owner. Post that entertain, inform or educate. Bite-sized content that lets them get to know more about you the business owner, by sharing your story, speaking your unique message and providing them with something uplifting and interesting that results in a smile, makes them feel good or which sparks curiosity in the topics around the services your business offers.

Below are my top 3 creative tips to help you make and use both Macro and Micro content in your marketing without feeling overwhelmed or it taking up too much of your valuable time.

The key here is to work smarter not harder by turning your Macro content into micro content. I see so many business owners burning out and being overly busy creating daily micro content for their social media channels, which alone, isn’t helping them achieve their business goals. It’s also very stressful having to come up with new ideas for social media content every day when you don’t plan in advance.

Tip 1:

Set aside a day each month to batch create 4 pieces of Macro Content. That’s 4 blogs, or 4 ten minute YouTube Videos.

Take key sentences from that content and turn them into micro content by adding those key sentences to an image to create posters/memes for your social media.

Tip 2:

If you’ve created a YouTube Video or broadcast a Live Video on Facebook or Instagram. Download the free App “Otter” onto your phone. It transcribes spoken words into text and sends them to you in an email. So you can hit the record button on Otter, play your video, and the App will transcribe it for you. You then just need to copy and paste your key sentences from the email it send you to turn them into micro content.

Tip 3:

Your Facebook Live videos don’t need to stay exclusively on Facebook. Once broadcast, go to the video settings and Download the Live. If you’ve tried this before and realised it doesn’t save the sound – here’s the solution.  You can then run that video through a programme such as Handbrake, which will allow you to save the original video with sound. Letting you then easily upload it to YouTube, imbed it on a page on your website or send directly by email to your mailing list subscribers.

Your energy is the most powerful marketing tool you have.

As a Social Media & Business Coach, something I hear all the time from Entrepreneurs is that their posts don’t get seen because they can’t break through the FB algorithm. While there is no doubt it has become increasingly difficult to get your posts into the newsfeed of your page followers as Facebook and other social media platforms try to corner you into paying to be seen, there is something I would like you to be aware of.

YOUR ENERGY IS POWERFUL ENOUGH TO OVERRULE ANY ALGORITHM.

energy

Your words and pictures when current, carry a vibration that will silently call out to the people who need to hear your message or have their live transformed in some way by the services you offer.

All too often we get caught up in the fast paced circus that social media can become. Posting at speed, feeling we will disappear into the abyss if we are not posting, present and visible at all times. This leads to bad habits, burnout, and posting for the sake of posting.

I speak here from experience. Having spent the last 7 years growing my Facebook page to over 125k+ followers, creating original content and posting daily was a routine I at times felt trapped by. If I took a few days off I would notice less traffic on my website resulting in less sales and a decline in income. So the quick fix – the one that seems to be fitting of the fast paced world of social media, was to simply re-post and re-purpose old content to give me constant and consistent visibility. Having made over 4k original uplifting and meaningful memes and posters over the years it was the easy option to dip into my existing catalogue of original content and keep the social media, website traffic and income stream wheel turning.

My message was just as potent, but the results were not. The reason??? The energy of my words were no longer current. They were not of the moment and as we all know as Spiritual Entrepreneurs, the magic and the power lies in the present.

27544871_2046121765428208_6804842337222613898_n

So if you have found yourself posting for the sake of posting or feel your posts are not being seen or breaking through that much talked about algorithm. Please stop. Pause. Take a breath. Create something new that reflects how you feel in that very moment. Take a photo of something you see in front of you or a photo of you as you are in that moment. Express your current thoughts. Share something about your day – the day you are posting on. Share something from another page that caught your eye or spoke to your soul that day. Whatever you do MAKE IT CURRENT. Only your current energy can connect with other people’s energy in real time.

This also translates to services you have offered for some time. You may have created an online course, or a bespoke service or package several months or years ago, but the same principle applies. You don’t need to constantly create new services to make it current, but the way you choose to market it can change to better present your current energy.

To give you an example, I updated my Learn Tarot Course on my website yesterday. A course I have offered for over a year. I changed the wording. I added new images that appeal to me now. I added testimonials from previous student. I presented it differently on social media to drive traffic to my website. Same course, but with new and current energy. The result…more people signing up to it in a day than in the previous few months combined.

Of course there will also be a practical element to this practice if you can get into the habit of re-visiting your website pages and updating them regularly. You will naturally see things differently with a little distance between when you created the offering and when you review it. You will more easily see where you can tweak it to improve it. Fresh eyes cast over your website regularly with the intention of improving it each time, will help your business grow and you may have learned a lot of new skills or gained feedback from previous clients since you first created the service or product.

Try doing a review of your social media and website today for yourself:

  • Is your energy current?
  • Do your posts reflect how you feel now? (we grow and change so often)
  • Are you marketing your services in a repetitive way?
  • When was the last time you tried something new on your social media pages?
  • When did you last post a picture of yourself?
  • How old is your profile picture and page header? Do they need updating?
  • When was the last time you updated your website?
  • Do you have new testimonials you could add to your website or social media?

Don’t be afraid to take a break. Give yourself time off and regular social media breaks. It’s good for the soul! You can easily build momentum back up by adhering to the principle of keeping things current.

I hope you have found this thought provoking. If you would like to learn how to effectively use social media to grow your business and increase your income, you can find details of my 1:1 intensive coaching here:

5 ways to add more Calm to your life with mindfulness.

Calm is a feeling we often crave but also often forget we can consciously create for ourselves.
It’s the antidote to stress, overwhelm, anxiety and anger. It’s the stillness in a busy world. It’s the quiet of mind after a long day of thinking. It’s moments in life where no irritation of the mind, body or soul exist or penetrate our being.

To seek calm is to acknowledge we are without it.

It’s no surprise that in this modern world of constant connection, glorified busyness, consumerism overload and striving to achieve, that we don’t make time to experience the joy of calm.
Life is busy. Our minds are busy. Our roles are many. The demands placed on us by others are time consuming. Our own expectations of ourselves are exhausting and experiencing calm can often feel out of reach.
Many of us even start to believe that calm is something only experienced by those with no problems or those who are fortunate enough to experience it by a waterfall in Bali. Those with no health worries. No financial struggle. No self-esteem issues. No kids, family or pets to take care of. Those with big houses, fancy cars and fat pay cheques.

The truth is calm is available to all of us and the more worries you find yourself having, the more you should consciously create moments throughout your day to experience calm.

Consciously choosing to experience calm, is to consciously set aside your worries, your fears and your frustrations. It’s not pretending they don’t exist, but placing them to the side for a period of time each day for you to experience the joy of just BEing. For you to allow your mind, body and spirit to relax.

As a mum of two and an entrepreneur, my lifestyle is naturally busy. However, at times the fruits of success created by this busyness have come at a cost. To my mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.
I have experienced the stress of being a parent of a child who was seriously ill. I have had several breakdowns. I have experienced grief that literally crippled me and prevented me from walking and talking, following the death of my Dad. I have experienced the struggle of living on the breadline as a single parent. I have high-functioning anxiety as a result – something I have learned to hide pretty well over the years. I have had my business collapse twice and faced financial ruin as a result. I have felt broken many times, yet here I am. Writing my first book and feeling more at peace with myself and my life than I have done for many years.
The key to this was finding my calm by creating the right environment in my day to consciously experience it and invite the feeling into my life frequently.

Here are the top 5 ways I create calm in my life to inspire you.

Create a soul-nourishing morning routine – I light an organic scented aromatherapy candle, sip my coffee and write a gratitude list. Then sit for a few minutes watching the wildlife in my garden. This time in the morning before the kids get up is just between me and The Universe.

calm1

Get out in nature – Whether it’s your back garden, a walk in the forest or by your favourite river or beach, nature teaches us not to rush. Nature holds magical healing and when we absorb ourselves in it, we can forget time and loose ourselves in the moment.

natureheals

Cuddle up on a comfy chair and read a book – Pure escapism from the demands of the modern world. I have a few favourites that always bring me comfort. One of which is my childhood favourite (Catwitch – by Una Woodruff), filled with magic and mystical illustrations. I bought it a few years ago as a treat to myself and it instantly transports me to a place where life was simpler and my worries were few.

calm3

Banish technology from the bedroom – Running an online business meant I checked my phone A LOT! Not just addictive level checking throughout my day but also last thing at night, first thig in the morning and sometimes even during the night if I happened to wake up. Returning to an old-fashioned alarm clock removed my excuse of needing my smartphone in the room to wake me up on time.

calm4

Spend quality time having simple and meaningful conversations with the people you love – No technology. No TV on in the background. No distractions. Our favourite places are snuggled up on the sofa, around the dinner table when we eat our evening meal, or outdoors in the garden drinking tea and toasting marshmallows around the chiminea.

Is the daily content you’re consuming draining your energy?

It’s not just what we eat that either fuels us in a positive way and gives us energy or leaves us feeling drained, but also what we choose to consume in our daily habits. What are you feeding your mind and soul today? Is it giving your energy and mood a positive boost or is it leaving you depleted and feeling low or overwhelmed?

Comparing ourselves to others is one of the fastest routes to feeling low about ourselves, our looks, our abilities, our lives and our achievements. With social media being an ever growing part of our daily lives we need to be aware of what triggers us in the virtual world we participate in, that ultimately then filters through into our reality.

When we feel consumed by negative thoughts and feelings about ourselves and the world around us, we have to look at where we are we are actually consuming that information and energy from. So let’s take look at some of the main sources we absorb negative media and look at ways we can reduce this without turning our backs on the issues that matter.

Mainstream news

There is no getting away from the fact that our world is suffering from some major humanitarian atrocities at the moment and they should not go unnoticed. However, we must be aware that although these events are happening, we are not powerless to contributing to helping those affected nor should our perception of the world be completely distorted because of it. There world is in general an amazing place to live, filled with a huge majority of people who care about others and a place we can thrive in abundance of all kinds…especially good feelings.

You would not be human if the tragic stories did not affect you, but you are not helping anyone is they are consuming you. Donate to a charity that is positively helping those affected by wars, natural disasters or personal tragedies. Play your part, contribute what you can, educate yourself, sign petitions that help governments make changes, attend peaceful protests. Do whatever feels right for you, then allow yourself to switch off. The point here is take positive action on the things that outrage you. Don’t instead let it consume you and bring your mood down so low you are no help to yourself or others. That does not contribute at all to finding a solution.

Practical Tip:

Controlling your exposure to it all, is not the same as turning your back. Instead of watching the morning news with your coffee every morning, enjoy it reading a chapter of your favourite book or watching the wildlife visiting your garden. Not only will your mood improve and your energy increase, you will also be sticking two fingers up to the massive corporate businesses behind mainstream media, who control so much of the opinions and content we are drip fed. Taking back control of what and when you watch helps you further awaken and strengthens your rising level of consciousness.

Social Media

This is a biggie! We spend so much time participating in a virtual world on a daily basis, our perception of reality can become hugely distorted as we fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others. We really must consciously decide what we wish to be consuming here.

In a world where we are the reporters and commentators of our own lives and much of what was once private has now become a public fodder, we must continually remind ourselves that most people only tend to broadcast their hand selected best moments that generally hide the same insecurities and fears we all have as humans.

The perfect selfie that hides all body parts that have headed started to head south, is not a full representation of that person. The holiday snap of the perfect beach and perfect bikini body does not tell the full story. It doesn’t show the persons journey and struggles to get there. The debt they may have just added to their ever mounting credit card to get there, or the amount of hours hard work and overcoming their own self-image fears to reach a point they were confident enough to be photographed in that bikini. You get the point. We never know the full story.

We make snap judgements about people in a virtual world then internalise those thoughts and compare our REAL lives to that. It’s nothing short of madness!
Also we tend to forget that we are in charge of what we allow to show up in our social media newsfeeds. So if you find images and videos that cause you distress or that whiny friend who seeks companions to join their pity party are constantly draining you, do something about it.

Practical tip:

Take a few moments to go through the groups, pages and people you follow on social media and delete or unfollow those that don’t make you feel good or add anything constructive or positive to your life. With whiny friends, you can simply turn off notifications or unfollow, that we they don’t know and you can still be a supportive friend when you choose to visit their page to offer support. It’s all about taking responsibility for what you are allowing into your life.

MAJOR ENERGY ALERT:

Be really aware of how much time you are spending online. In my opinion it has become a modern day addiction that is having a negative impact on the lives of so many people. Try keeping a note of how much time you spend online or attached to your smart phone. Those 5 minutes here and there added to the hours you unwillingly get caught up sharing even the positive stuff or watching videos soon add up with potentially devastating consequences. I promise you if you are really honest, you will be very surprised at the amount of time you spend “connected”.

I know, I have been there, lived it and worn “the internet stole my time and energy” T-shirt. I have also suffered the consequences of becoming so distracted by the flashy lights of social media entertainment that I have missed out on enjoying real life experiences.

Social circles

This part is really simple to work out and you will most likely already be aware of this, but implementing change here can often be difficult. Have a look at the people you are surrounding yourself with and become aware of who drains your energy.
I know from experience, the people who do drain your energy are also the same people you spend a lot of time saying yes to, when you really mean no, and whom you are most likely to spend time and energy complaining about.

Life is short. Spend it with people you love and who love you back.

Look out for the people who have a habit of putting you down to make themselves look or feel better. You are not on this planet to put up with stuff like that, nor does it help them deal with their own issues while you are there to shield them from having to face themselves. As you go through the process of awakening and becoming more conscious of your choices, you may find you outgrow friends as your internal world shifts. Become aware of the energy vampires in your life and make a conscious choice to spend less time in their company. Choose to spend more time with those who lift you up, celebrate your successes and champion your dreams.

You have a choice every single day to be in charge of what you consume. If you’re finding your current choices are draining you of energy, make the choice to choose different for yourself.

With love,

linda

5 steps to successfully manifest your deepest desires.

Bring your true dreams and desires to life by harnessing the power of manifesting and activating the Universal Law Of Attraction.

Landing your ideal job, owning your dream home, finding your soulmate or just creating abundance and happiness is all within your reach. When you learn to successfully applying manifesting and tap into the Universal Law of Attraction, then it’s possible to turn your dreams into your reality a lot quicker than you believe possible.
Here’s my 5 steps to manifesting that have worked to secure me my dream home in Scotland, find my soulmate, create my own successful business, make a positive difference to people all around the World with over 125k followers on my Social Media platform and bring a wealth of abundance, joy and happiness into my life.
My life didn’t always look like this. I started adulthood as a teenage mum, spent a year in homeless accommodation with my young daughter and lived on the breadline throughout my 20’s. I used manifesting combined with taking inspired action to be the creator of the life I am now blessed to live.

You also have the power within you to work in harmony with the Universe to create the life you truly desire and deserve!

Step 1 — Get clear about what you want.

Get extremely clear about what you want to attract into your life. Get as detailed as possible so The Universe has no doubt whatsoever of what it is to respond to. Whimsical wants don’t carry the same amount of power as true desires of the heart.
Practical tips:
Visualise your desires mentally, emotionally and physically. Imagine yourself already having that which you desire. How does your life look? How does it feel to have it? Engage as many senses as you can. For example if it’s a dream holiday you desire, can you close your eyes and smell the sea air? Hear the sound of the sea lapping against the shore? Feel the warm sun on your face and body or taste the exotic foods you will be eating? The more detail you can get in your vision that engage all of your senses, the more the mind convinces your energetic body that you are already experiencing these things. This increases the magnetic power of manifesting. Bringing into your reality that which you are already sensing and experiencing in some form.
If you are lacking clarity, yet know you want your life to look and feel better, but are unsure what you wish to attract, a vision board or manifesting diary can help you.
To create a vision board, pin or stick images of things you feel attracted to that represent the areas of your life you wish to improve, or of the physical things you want to attract. For example, if it were a new car you want to manifest, you may start by pinning an image of any car you find in a magazine. The more you see it over a period of days or weeks, you will begin to get clearer on the colour, shape, and make of the exact car you truly desire. You can then put that specific car on your vision board. Sending a crystal clear message to The Universe of what it is to send you.
(Pinterest is a great place to create an online version of a vison board)
If you wish to use a manifesting diary, try to make it red, the colour of power. Start writing down the things you wish to manifest. Review during the waning phase of the moon and remove things that at first seemed like true desires, but turned out to be nothing more than whimsical wants.
You can also meditate to gain more clarity. Amplifying your call for clarity by holding a clear quartz crystal or selenite as you do so. If meditation is not something you practice, simply carrying either of those crystals in your pocket or bag will harness the metaphysical properties of the crystals to assist you.

quatz.jpg

Step 2 — Set strong intentions.

Now that you know what you want, you can set the intention to send your order out to The Universe with the expectation and full belief it will be received, processed, and delivered to you. This is the asking part, to get what you want. If you don’t ask, you won’t get. It’s time to speak up!
Practice speaking up in your life by expressing your opinions or sharing your thoughts and feelings to assist you with this stage. If we are afraid to ask for our needs to be met in one area of our life, it creates a block. This block will then filter into other areas of our lives. Including our ability to successfully manifest.
Practical tips:
Strengthen your intentions!
Call upon the help of your higher self, guardian angel, spirit guides, Gods or Goddesses that play a part in your spiritual life. Or any other force greater than your physical self that you believe in. Ask them to support your intention and assist with the delivery.
Hold an intention ritual. This can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. Lighting a candle and reading aloud the current list of things you wish to manifest to vocally send the request out. Timing your intention with a new moon makes use of the natural cycles of the moon and strengthens the power of your request. Joining with others, either in an online or physical group, as you set your intentions, is a very powerful way to magnify your request and make sure your cosmic order is heard loud and clear.
Write your requests down on a piece of paper and hold in your hands as you infuse it with Reiki. Draw the Reiki power symbol on the paper to boost its strength. If you are not attuned to Reiki, still write down the things you wish to manifest. The act of simply putting pen to paper alone is an action that will increase the power of your intention. Decorate the piece of paper with any symbols your intuitively feel drawn to or feel inspired to create.
Light a red candle (the colour symbolic of power) and meditate on your intentions. An Orange candle works particularly well for business abundance. Place your written intentions in a box or jar alongside some crystals that help to attract abundance, such as Citrine.

meditate

Step 3 — Release yourself from the how.

It is simply not your job to work out how the things you want to manifest will appear in your life. In fact, trying to figure it all out is the very thing that many people don’t realise is the block to them not receiving what they have requested. This responsibility lies with The Universe.
Using the good old ‘Out of sight, out of mind’ method is all that is required here. Tuck your written request away in a box or jar and let The Universe do its job. Each time you do find your mind wandering into problem solving mode, you can perform a simple releasing technique of taking a few deep breaths and on each exhale, say the following manifesting mantra to yourself:

“I trust in the process and exhale all control as I breathe out.”

1.jar

Step 4 — Match your thoughts and feelings to the frequency of abundance.

So many people stumble at this part. They have asked, they have set the intention, yet feelings of frustration start to seep in when nothing seems to be materialising. Maintaining positive thoughts and feelings as often as possible in the manifestation process, ensure you are as aligned as can be with the frequency of the things you wish to attract. Like attracts like, so if you are feeling bad about yourself, are engaging in low vibration activities such as gossip, needless worry, judging (either yourself or others), allowing your personal energy to become drained by not maintain a good self-care routine, or simply wallowing in self-pity, then you can be assured, there will be a delay in your order.
Recognising those negative thought patterns or feelings as they show up and making an effort to change them, will get you back on track. We must always be aligned to the vibration of the things we have asked for. The more we can stay in a high vibration, the quicker we are able to manifest things in our lives.
Practicing Gratitude, is the fastest and most effective way of converting negative thoughts and feelings to positive ones. Using either a separate gratitude journal or writing in your manifesting diary, write 5 things you are grateful for each night before you go to bed.
Use positive abundance affirming affirmations. Here are some you may wish to use, but do try to write your own. As the words that come most naturally to you will be a better match for your own energy and the vibration of your personal desires.

“I am abundant in all areas of my life”
“I am a magnet for money and prosperity”
“All my desires flow easily to me”
“I am confident The Universe has heard my wishes”
“I am worthy of abundance”
“I am releasing any blocks that may be holding me back”
“I love life, and life loves me back”
“I trust The Universe will deliver my desires with divine timing”

gabrielle-cole-739125-unsplash

Step 5 — Be willing to take action and the occasional leap of faith.

As we have already learned in step 3, it is not our job to specify how the things we desire show up in our lives. Once we have handed complete trust over to The Universe to deliver, then we also have to accept that the way it shows up may not be exactly as we had initially hoped or imagined.
For example: If you have asked for a dream job, which is a complete change of career, rather than a natural progression from your current position, The Universe may not send a head-hunter to track you down and offer it to you on a gold plate. It may, however, delivery you an opportunity to sign up for a free course on a subject that will take you a step closer to your dream job and give you some knowledge or experience that you will require. Or it may present you with an opening in the career you wanted, but not at the exact level you requested. We have to trust The Universe knows how best to deliver our desires, and there may be lessons we need to learn that missing these vital steps would otherwise prevent us from being exposed to.
We have to work on our confidence, so that when doors of opportunity are presented to us, that hide everything behind them that we have ever desired, we have the confidence and bravery to walk through. Even if this means taking a blind leap of faith on occasions. Trusting that the little signs revealed to us along the way, are indeed messages that we are on track, and that we are being guided towards our dreams. Having the courage to act upon them is our responsibility. We are after all, active co-creators of our own reality. We must take action and put in effort when it’s required of us.
We also have to be open to receiving.
Otherwise we risk having our order delivered and not feeling worthy enough to actually accept it. Start taking baby steps to get you into receiving mode. Accepting help when it’s offered, compliments when they are given, and opportunities as they arise.
Start tuning into your gut instinct and practice following your heart. For this is the way The Universe guides us and makes sure we are perfectly placed and aligned to receive everything we have ever dreamed of and desired.

How to create a Hygge inspired calming and soul-nourishing morning routine

My morning routine helps to start my day in a calm yet focussed way. Inspired by Hygge, the Danish art of living well, and incorporating some of the techniques I use to manifest success, abundance and happiness in my life and business.

It starts with a few minutes of prep the night before, as I gather up the items I use and place them in position to make my morning run smoothly and helps me stick to my routine. Before I go to bed I also remove all technology from my bedroom to take away any temptation in the morning to check my emails, texts or social media when I awake.

This morning routine is just one of the many ways I bring intentional-living and slow-living mindfulness techniques into my day to benefit from the calm and clarity it creates.

Here are the items you will need.

A tray – preferably wooden

Your favourite cup or mug for your morning drink – it’s important to use the same one each morning

A candle – I prefer to use an organic scented aromatherapy candle ( Zing Organics botanical candles are my favourite )

A journal – something simple and not too busy or colourful

A pen – Selecting a special pen solely for this purpose can help add a sense of ritual to what you are doing

A few pieces of nature – Think simplicity. A few pebbles, seashells, pinecones and a simple piece of foliage from your garden in a simple vase or cleaned jam jar.

morningroutine

In the morning when you wake, preferably before anyone else in the house, prepare yourself your favourite morning drink (mine is coffee) and take your tray to somewhere you can sit comfortably.

Light your candle and as you do so, set the intention in your mind that the next ten minutes are yours to enjoy. This is Soul-nourishing “me time” between you and The Universe.

As you sip your drink, pick up your pen and open your journal on a fresh double page. The left page will become your gratitude list and the right page will become your desire list. It is an important art of manifesting to have both.

Gratitude list:

Begin by dating your page and writing the following.

“Today I am grateful for…”

Then list ten things. This can be people in your life, material things that support you, good health, feelings you have…anything at all you are grateful for.

Gratitude is a fast-track to happiness. It can shift your mind from a place of worry and fear, to one of deep appreciation for all that is working well in your life.

Desire list:

Again date the page and write the following.

“I am so grateful now that…”

Then go on to write ten things you desire and wish to manifest into your life. You will notice the sentence begins in the present tense. This is important in the manifesting process, as you want to give thanks for the things you desire as if they are already in your life. Helping to manifest them into your life at a greater speed.

Once your list is written, pick the one thing you desire most and spend a few moments visualising yourself having it, achieving it or receiving it, whichever is suitable. Try to really imagine the feelings it will generate inside of you when it shows up in your life.

Then close your journal and direct your attention to the items of nature on your tray. Pick them up. Hold the pebbles, touch the seashells and admire the beauty of the plant of foliage you have in the vase. This helps to connect and ground you. Especially after having spent a few minutes with your imagination visualising your desire.

Finish your drink, then stand up and move your body. Gently stretching and awakening your muscles.

After I have done this, I go to the window in my dining room and just sit and watch the variety of wildlife in my back garden for a few minutes. For me, this act of simple observing and Being helps remind me that regardless of what stresses, worries or fears pop into my mind through the day, I am connected to something much larger and much more beautiful than any concerns within my head. I am connected to the Universe, and life is here to be savoured, enjoyed and lived fully.

5 ways to add more Calm to your life.

Your wellbeing is your responsibility.

Your wellbeing is your responsibility! Not your partners, not your parents (if you’re an adult), not your employers, not your friends…your sense of wellbeing and happiness is your responsibility.
Making self-care a priority in your life is vital to you experiencing joy, happiness and fulfilment. Being responsible for your own thoughts, feelings, and reactions to situations, is the best way to empower yourself in the present moment. It can help you feel energised and confident enough to make choices that will best support you in creating the life you desire.
Here are some ideas for self-care that go over and above simply taking a little “me time” for pampering. This is about creating daily rituals that will support and nourish your whole being. Mind, body and spirit.

Spend time in Nature

The healing and restorative powers of being in nature are enormous, yet for many of us, we get less time outdoors regularly that even the compulsory one hour prisoners are allowed to spend outdoors to maintain their wellbeing as part of their human rights. Not only do we get a much needed boost of fresh air, the change of scenery lets us get out of our own heads, reminds us we are connected to all living things and are part of something much greater than ourselves. It can dissolve tension, reduce stress and provide us with a deeper connection to ourselves and the world around us. Great for mind, body and spirit.

calm2

Create a daily ritual

A ritual is simply something you do at a particular time of day and in the same way each time. Helping to ground you in the present moment and allowing you time to pause.
Taking time for ourselves on a daily basis to really connect with our soul and deepen our connection to self, is essential to our wellbeing and one which is greatly overlooked in today’s technologically led society. Creating a daily ritual that allows us to do that can help build strong foundations from which we can build a life full of joy, peace and fulfilment.
You can make this as simple as lighting a candle and spending a few minutes in silent contemplation, meditation or prayer before starting your day. Perhaps taking time out of your busy day to pause by drinking your favourite herbal tea from a designated cup as you simply watch the world go by. Using the same cup helps reinforce the intention that this time is for you to switch off and “just be”.
Or you could really spend some time and energy creating a dedicated sacred space in your home that allows you to spend longer in contemplation / meditation and fill it with things that inspire, uplift you and hold special meaning. Such as putting on relaxing music, using natural scented candles, stones collected from your favourite beach or pictures of your loved ones.
Explore what works to connect you with your spiritual side. It is a part of you that should not be ignored.

Participate in regular exercise

Don’t let your body cease up on you. Maintaining your physical health has an impact on your whole wellbeing. A tired and stiff body stores stagnant energy. Keep it moving, keep it flexible and keep it active. Get in flow! With the growing number of activities we are now able to do online it’s good to remind yourself to keep your body moving throughout the day.
As well as making sure you keep your body moving, ensure you are also feeding it with food that is going to give you the nutrients, minerals and vitamins to fuel it. Ensuring you drink plenty of water to maintain a healthy body is something we also sometimes need reminding of. 8 – 10 glasses a day is recommended.

Get a good night’s Sleep

We all thrive on different amounts of sleep, but there are things all of us can do to ensure the quality of sleep we are getting is allowing us adequate rest.
Create a simple, clutter free atmosphere to your bedroom. Tidying up before you go to bed and making sure you bed linen is fresh, clean and comfortable helps you get the rest you need. Banish technology from the bedroom and instead opt for a calming bedside lamp and a good book if you wish to participate in a relaxing activity before you nod off.
Introduce a soothing colour such as a pale green to your bedroom will promote a calm atmosphere. Let fresh air in to circulate daily and think about introducing some sleep promoting room fragrances such as lavender.

Take regular technology breaks

We were not designed to experience life through a smart screen. Nor were we designed to absorb and process information at the rate at which it is now available to us via technology.
Ensuring you take regular breaks throughout the day and limit the time you spend online will free up both time and energy to participate in other activities that your mind body and spirit may be craving.

unplaug
The possibilities for self-care routines and rituals are endless and experimenting with things is the only way to really find out what works for you.

I’d love to hear in the comments what rituals or self-care routines you have in place for yourself to help maintain your wellbeing.

linda

Spring clean your clutter – Spring clean your mind.

rob-bye-200739-unsplash

It is often said that the physical clutter we surround ourselves with is an external representation of what is going on in our mind.

I have found that to be very true for me many times. When my emotions become saturated and my mind cluttered with negative, self-sabotaging or repetitive thoughts, it seems to translate into my physical world. The drain on my mental and emotional energy consumed by being too caught up in my head seems to have a direct impact on the energy I have to take care of the physical belongings around me. Drawers get cluttered, paperwork gets left unattended and my world falls into a mess of disorganised chaos. The same applies when I emotionally don’t want to let something or someone go. That translates to an unwillingness on a subconscious level into not letting go of the physical things around us. Whether that is sentimental belongings we don’t actually love, clothes that no longer fit us or broken objects that should be binned but take up space in our home.

Before I realised there was a connection between my emotional state and the physical chaos around me, I tried many times in the past to clear myself of physical clutter and would often work hard to create an organised and simplistic space to live in where I felt I could breathe and escape from the outside world. Only to find that the next disagreement I had with someone that left me feeling upset, or the next cycle of having thoughts of dislike about myself, or when I felt let down or hurt by others, or simply got too caught up in my head overthinking a situation and second guessing what others thought, the clutter would seemingly magically reappear  around me again to my dismay.

Feeling overwhelmed by too many things to take care of, or too much disorganised mess to wade through, can prevent us from having the space and time we need in the present moment to really enjoy life, and it also blocks us from growth, change and moving forward.
So here are some tips to help you de-clutter your life both physically and emotionally

Emotional and mental clutter

Firstly bring awareness to the reality of your situation by asking yourself:
What are you spending most of your time thinking about or replaying in your head?
Can you identify the stories you tell yourself over and over again, that keep you stuck?
What if you could wipe the slate clean and get rid of all those things that you are holding yourself back with? How would that make you feel? Relieved? Scared? Happy? Not in control?
All those old stories about how you are not good enough, smart enough, beautiful enough, deserving enough…it’s time to let that stuff go. It’s not the truth of who you are.
Here are some suggestions to help you get rid of those limiting beliefs and old stories:
Write a list of all the situations you feel resentment about, feel angry about or are simply tired of carrying around in your head. Once written down, burn your list and when doing so, set the intention you are willing to hand everything on that list over to the Universe. If burning it safely is not possible for you then at the very least tear it up into tiny pieces and throw it out. This really physical act can reinforce any thoughts or promises you make not to hold on to these things any longer. The release you get emotionally from such an act feels extremely liberating.
Write out a commitment to yourself and place it somewhere you can see it daily. It could read something like: “I insert name commit to making a dedicated effort to no longer self sabotage, make excuses or engage in any activity that prevents me from moving forward and reaching my full potential.” Decorate your pledge, and make an effort, put some love into writing it down, make it nice to look at so you can put it somewhere in your home you can see daily.
Try EFT tapping ( emotional Freedom Technique) to reprogram your thoughts. Each time you catch yourself churning over an old story or limiting belief in your mind, tap the centre of your forehead, between your eyebrows, for 30 seconds and repeat something positive to yourself. For example: “I am deserving”.
Become more aware. Simply recognising these old thought patterns that no longer serve you and stopping the runaway overthinking train in its tracks when it appears can help you greatly. Each time you catch yourself allowing your thoughts to spiral downward out of control, take a few deep breaths, put your favourite feel good music on, call a positive friend – do something to break the cycle.
Practice forgiveness. Forgive people who have caused you past hurt that still affects you today. Remind yourself no matter what they did, forgiveness is a gift to yourself. This is not about excusing anyone’s actions or unacceptable behaviour, this is about letting it go so that you can move on. You don’t need to search for them and forgive them to their face, they don’t even need to know about it, simply forgive them in your mind, or for something that has caused deep pain, write down who you want to forgive, what they did to you and burn or rid yourself of that piece of paper. Decide it’s time and let it go.

Speak up for yourself and voice your opinions, feelings and concerns as situations arise. Don’t allow emotions to build up within you. If someone upsets you don’t silence yourself. Speak your mind, clearly, calmly and with confidence. Very often we let the unsaid things we wish we had voiced play in our minds over and over again. It’s incredibly draining!

If you are finding the emotion and mental aspect of de-cluttering difficult, then perhaps starts with the physical aspect. Both are so inter-connected, that dealing with one will help the other.

Physical clutter

Where do you physically need to create space in your life?

In a world that for the last 20-30 years has been driven by material possessions, a culture of buying and creating a false sense of security by surrounding ourselves with “things”, many of us feel completely swamped by the amount of stuff we have surrounding us and exhausted trying to maintain it all. The more we have, the more we need to clean, organise and take care of, and that requires our time, energy and effort.
How can you simplify your environment? What do you have in your home and work space that no longer serves you or brings you joy? Can you bring yourself to get rid of it? Can you let it go?

There are lots of books and websites that give you a variety of techniques to declutter your physical life in depth, but here are a few pointers to get you started.
Go through your wardrobe and remove anything that no longer fits you or that does not make you feel good when you wear it. (Donate them to charity or put them in a clothing recycling bin.) Store out of season clothes away until they are required.
Deal with paper work. Gather it up from all it’s regular hiding places around your home and action those that need dealt with and shred the rest.
Home décor. Do the items you have on display gather dust and are they on display through choice or obligation? If it doesn’t bring you joy get rid of it. If it was a gift, pay it forward and donate to charity. If it is sentimental, could you store it in a special box and look at it when you choose?
Clear even just one shelf or surface and do not put anything back on it for the next 3 days. Reflect on how it makes you feel to see the space. Can you sit with the feelings it brings up? Does it make you feel uncomfortable? Does it inspire you to think of something new to put on it or do with the area? Does it make you feel like you have space to breathe?
Don’t be tempted to buy more storage units or boxes to store things away in…these need cleaned and maintained too. This lesson is all about letting go and creating space….not more places to hide things away to be dealt with at a later date.
Try to enjoy the process of de-cluttering. Put on your favourite music while you do it. Set a timer and give yourself 10 minutes to clear a drawer. Give yourself a power hour where you commit to not being interrupted or distracted and simply see how much clutter you can power though in that time. Reward yourself after each thing you deal with and remind yourself this exercise is about freeing up space and time for yourself. You are going to feel great at the end of it!

Your clutter is trying to show you what is going on in your mind and in your heart. Listen to it. Deal with it and liberate your mind, body and spirit by getting rid of it.

3 Simple mindfulness tips to help you slow down & reduce stress

Suffering from stress? Here’s 3 very simple 5 minute practices you can introduce into your day, to help you slow down, become empowered to make better choices for yourself and bring awareness to how you are truly feeling in any given moment.

Fast paced living within the modern world can lead to burnout and stress! This can have a huge impact on your health, energetically, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Awareness is key to you finding a place of peace and calm within yourself in an often demanding and chaotic world.

Once you become aware of any aspect of you life, be it your thoughts, feelings or actions, you instantly empower yourself. You stop stumbling through life. You raise your level of consciousness and can start making choices that are more aligned with who you really are and what you truly desire in life. No matter how small. Every change made consciously will improve your life and move you forward. You forge a new path for yourself.

Take a moment just now to simply BREATHE.

28059038_2051830858190632_5126600455852063672_n
Stop reading for just a few moments and take 3 deep breaths.
How does it feel to know that in this very moment you don’t need to engage with the fast paced demands that have caused you so much stress and prevented you from creating a life filled with meaning and joy?
Relieved is the word that springs to mind for most people, but for others change can feel scary or even impossible to imagine.

Here are three simple 5 minute practices you can introduce to your day to help bring you into the present moment and slow down your mind, body and spirit.

  • Take 5 minutes in the morning to simply think about what you can sense in the room around you before you get out of bed. Is it light or dark? Can you see some of your favourite objects in the room? Can you hear rain or wind outside, or a glimpse of sunshine through the window? Can you hear any birds singing or traffic driving by as people start their day? Feel the warmth and softness of your bed linen as it surrounds and supports your body. Gentle stretch out and be aware of the muscles in your body starting to awake from their sleep. This practice will bring you right into the present moment and set you up for the day ahead.

  • Take 5 minutes each day to simply sit and do nothing. This is not a tea, coffee or reading break…just 5 minutes where you will do nothing, allow your body to rest and let your mind wander wherever it wants to go.

  • Take 5 minutes at the end of the day to consciously focus on your breathing before you go to sleep. This helps relax both the body and mind and prepares you for a restful, peaceful sleep.

If you are wondering how on earth you will fit in 15 minutes per day to include these practices on a regular basis, then it’s a sure sign you could benefit from making the time to slow down a little and lead a more mindful lifestyle. As humans we are not designed to operate on full speed all the time. Rest, time for reflection and time to simply BE are just as important as taking action.

You mind, body and spirit need time to rest, recharge and reflect. Allow yourself to have it daily and enjoy the rewards it brings.

With love,

linda
